Dr. Shawn Dixon

Dr. Dixon with foal Shawn Dixon. is a veterinary intern at CEC. She grew up in Port Orchard, a small town in Western Washington. M Dr. Dixon's childhood and high school years were spent leaning stalls and feeding horses in exchange for the experience of learning how to ride, train, and show light and draft horse breeds. In addition to participating with her leased Arab/Pintos, Rumor and Dinkum, she bred and have shown rabbits with a local 4-H program.

Dr. Dixon attended Montana State University-Billings and received a B.S. in Biology in 2003. During undergraduate school, she worked for a thriving mixed animal veterinary practice, which encouraged her to pursue her childhood dream of practicing veterinary medicine.

In May 2008, she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado
State University.

During veterinary school, Dr. Dixon participated in AAEP-sponsored learning labs, an equine practice seminar, and rotated through multiple areas of the equine hospital to develop skills in equine medicine. She also enjoyed volunteering for a foaling program, health inspections for fair-going 4-H horses, and a spay/neuter clinic in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Some of her veterinary interests include equine reproduction and neonatology, managing hoof lameness, dentistry, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal disorders.

In free time, Dr. Dixon and her husband, Dr. Benjamin Dixon, a physical therapist, and I, enjoy hiking, mountain biking, camping, climbing, and snowshoeing/boarding. She also enjoys flower gardening, playing the piano, visiting family and friends in Montana, and caring for "the kids".. two Shelties, a foster cat, and Speedy, the turtle.
