Dr. Lana Groom

Dr. Lana Groom, with dogs Dr. Lana Groom was born and raised in Davenport Iowa.

Her love for horses started at the age of five, with her first pony "Plug". Her family knew she was destined to become a veterinarian because she was known to occasionally bring critters home with her to "doctor", such as birds, rabbits, and snakes.

Dr. Groom's past horse interest included the Quarter Horse. She participated in local shows, barrel racing and speed events. While growing up she was also active in softball and band.

Dr. Groom attended Iowa State University with a major in Microbiology. In 1991, she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine: Ames, Iowa.

Her career in equine practice began with an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. After completing her internship, Dr. Groom spent a year at The Ohio State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, as a clinical instructor for the Equine Ambulatory Department.

Dr. Groom completed a three year Equine Surgery Residency at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. She has worked at referral practices in Kansas, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Dr. Groom joined Colorado Equine Clinic in fall of 2006. Her veterinary interests are surgery, dentistry, ultrasound, tendon and wound healing.

Outside of work, her hobbies include: hiking, flyball with her three crazy border collies, riding horses, shooting, fishing, reading, photography and cross stitch.
