Parasites/De-worming

CEC recommends having your horses on Strongid C
a daily continuous wormer. If you choose not to be on the Strongid C program, the following de-worming schedule is recommended:

De-worming not only prevents parasite damage, but can also inhibit Colic-(#1 ki ller of horses)

Horses on Strongid C2x (continuous daily de-wormer) should be given a boticide (Ivermectin) in the spring and Ivermectin/Praziquantel in the fall.

A Dental Examination is recommended annually!

* Influenza and Rhinopneumonitis: Both an intramuscular and a new, intranasal product (Calvenzaimages.jpg )trademark%20symbol.gif are available. Calvenzaimages.jpg  requires an initial series of 3 boosters, 3-4 weeks apart; vaccines are needed once per year subsequently. The other vaccine product should be given twice per year.

**Eastern and Western Encephalomyelitis (sleeping sickness)

***West Nile Virus (requires a booster in 3 to 6 weeks for the first series in previously unvaccinated horses), then two vaccinations per year thereafter (2nd in June or July)

**** Itranasal Strangles vaccines are recommended for horses boarded in large barns. If not vaccinated previously, an initial series of 2 vaccines , 3-4 weeks apart is needed.
